Itineraries
Day 1
Airport – Marrakech
Pickup at the Marrakech airport with a sign bearing your name, followed by a transfer to the hotel/riad. You’ll have the chance to get a first glimpse of the famous Jamaa el-Fnaa Square, where you can enjoy its lively atmosphere, street performers, music, and dancing, as well as sample the food from the food stalls. Overnight at the hotel/riad.
Day 2
MARRAKECH – OUARZAZATE – SKOURA – DADES VALLEY
Pickup at your hotel/riad in Marrakech or at the airport. Start of the tour. Departure from Marrakech, where we’ll cross the Atlas Mountains and the Tiz-in-Tichka Pass (2,260 m), making several stops to enjoy the magnificent views along the route, rest, and/or take photos.
We’ll continue on our way until we reach Ouarzazate, where, after lunch, we’ll continue the route to the village of Skoura, located in the heart of the Valley of the Palms, a vast, labyrinthine oasis whose lush vegetation envelops beautiful, hidden kasbahs. You can also visit its kasbah. From here, we’ll continue through the Valley of the Roses toward the Dades Valley.
Day 3
DADES VALLEY – TODRA GORGE – ERFOUD – MERZOUGA – ERG CHEBBI DESERT
After breakfast, we’ll continue along the banks of the Boulmane River, where a road lined with kasbahs (citadels) and ksour (fortresses or castles) opens up, set against a landscape of ochre, red, and mauve hues. All around us, we’ll see rocky plateaus where dromedaries graze.
After a journey filled with ksour, oases, and palm trees, we’ll arrive in Tineghir (home to the spectacular Todra Gorges), perched at an altitude of 1,350 meters and surrounded by a palm grove.
We will continue on to Erfoud (the city of fossils) and, after passing through Rissani, we will arrive in Merzouga, facing the Erg Chebbi dunes. Overnight at a hotel.
Day 4
Merzouga - Visit the Nomads - Khamlia – Merzouga
We’ll wake up early and ride back to the lodge on dromedaries, watching the sunrise in the middle of the desert. We’ll arrive at the hotel, and after showering and having breakfast, we’ll take a 4×4 tour of Erg Chebbi, visiting: the Merzouga Oasis, the nomadic lands, the village of Khamlia (the “Black Village”), the Mifiss mines, the desert plateaus, and return to the inn at noon. In the afternoon, we’ll swap the 4x4 for camels to venture deeper into the desert as the sun sets, until we reach the haima camp in the middle of the desert’s high dunes, where we’ll have dinner and spend the night under millions of stars.
Day 5
MERZOUGA–RISSANI–THE DRAA VALLEY–OUARZAZATE
In the morning, we’ll ride back to the hotel on camels for breakfast and a refreshing shower. We’ll then head to Rissani, the first imperial city, with its lively market, where nomads from the surrounding area come to sell their livestock and buy the supplies they need.
If time permits, we can do some shopping at the market and sample its famous Berber pizza, before heading to Ouarzazate through the Draa Valley, home to one of Morocco’s longest rivers. We’ll make stops to admire the charming adobe kasbahs and Berber villages that dot the route, as well as the fascinating geological formations of the Draa Valley.
Day 6
OUARZAZATE – AIT BEN HADDOU – MARRAKECH
In Ouarzazate, if you’re a movie lover, you can visit the film studios where many famous Hollywood movies have been shot. Next, we’ll take a detour to visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
You’ll have free time to stroll through the kasbah and climb to the top to take in the views. We’ll cross the High Atlas Mountains again, with their beautiful scenery. We’ll arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon.
Day 7
City of origin – Marrakech
The guide will pick you up at your hotel and take you on a tour of the city, accompanied by a guide specializing in history so you can fully enjoy the historic district. The tour will include a visit to the Medina and the famous Jemaa el-Fnaa Square.
Marrakech is, along with Meknes, Fez, and Rabat, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. Marrakech was founded in 1062 by Youssef Ibn Tachfin, the first emir of the Berber Almoravid dynasty, and served as the capital of the Islamic Empire.
Marrakech is one of Morocco’s most important cities and is located in the south of the country, at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. It boasts numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, making it the country’s main tourist attraction.
