It is one of the imperial cities with the greatest tourist appeal due to its history and craftsmanship, and it boasts one of the largest medinas in the Arab world; the madrasas, the souk (spectacular for the quantity and variety of spices), Al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest university in the world, the mosques, squares, the Andalusian quarter and the potters’ quarter, palaces, and museums. We’ll pass through vast cedar forests, home to communities of nomadic herders. Heading south, we’ll leave the High Atlas Mountains behind and arrive in Errachidia, where we’ll see the first large palm groves of the trip.

These green oases create an ideal microclimate for growing all kinds of fruit trees and vegetables. Continuing on our route, we arrive in Erfoud, the economic capital of the Tafilalet region. In this area, fossils abound, bearing witness to a past covered by the sea.

From here, the paved road ends, and we travel along Saharan tracks to reach the adobe village of Merzouga. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel

Day 4

Merzouga – Merzouga

After visiting the village of Kamelia and the deserted city of M’tis, we’ll discover small hamlets and inhabited houses in unexpected places, far from any civilization.

We’ll also visit any nomads we encounter and have tea with them. In the afternoon, we’ll leave the 4x4 and ride camels to spend the night in the middle of the desert under the starry sky. Dinner and lodging in a nomadic haima.

Traveling up the Todra River, we’ll reach its impressive gorges, which rise over 300 meters high. After a brief visit to the town, we’ll take the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs” to reach Ouarzazate, one of the most important cities in southern Morocco, known for its thriving film industry, having hosted productions such as Gladiator, Troy, The Mummy, and others. Visit to the Kasbah of Taurirt. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

After breakfast, we’ll set off toward Ait Ben Haddou, the queen of the kasbahs and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 7

Marrakech – Guided tour of Marrakech

Breakfast. Full-day guided tour of Marrakech. Legend has it that the city was settled by a tribe from the other side of the Atlas Mountains, who brought with them a large supply of dates; from the pits of these dates, a vast palm grove sprang up.

Known as “the red city” for the color of its walls, it is full of gardens irrigated by underground wells (khettaras), which were built by the Almoravids and Saharan nomads in the 11th century. It was in the 12th century that the city reached its architectural and cultural peak.

The Kasbah, the Saadian Tombs, the Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia, the Majorelle Gardens, and the souks are some of the must-see attractions.
