The entire medina has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site; its souks and narrow streets have remained unchanged since the Middle Ages. To explore the medina of Fez el Bali, start at the Bab Boujloud gate, enter the souk, and wander through its narrow, labyrinthine streets, frequently dodging mules laden with heavy loads.

Inside, visitors can admire numerous arches, mosaics, wood carvings, and paintings of great beauty.
The Fez Festival of World Sacred Music, established in 1994, is an integral part of the city’s spiritual and artistic life; since its inception, this event has enjoyed tremendous international success.
